Cutcliffe in the Lead

That's according to David Glenn, who quoted a Duke source that raved about the Tennessee OC in his latest blog post.

"(Cutcliffe) was very, very impressive," a Duke source said. "With some coaches, the more you delve into the details of their background, the less you like them. With (Cutcliffe), the more you learn, the more you like. He's an impressive person and an impressive coach."

Glenn also mentioned the name of Atlanta Falcons OC Hue Jackson as another candidate that has been interviewed by Alleva. Jackson was a finalist for the opening in 2003 before it went to Ted Roof.

So, let me get this straight. Alleva wants to hire an offensive genius and he looks to the ATLANTA FALCONS? What could he be thinking? Maybe we need to have a search for a new athletic director.

Expect a decision by the weekend.

Cutcliff is known for developing quarterbacks, and he has a good record as an offensive coordinator. owever, his offenses rely heavily on superior athleticism rather than innovative play calling, a combination not well-suited to Duke's recruiting constraints. To make matters worse, he was criticized for mediocre recruiting during his stint as an SEC head coach.

Culcliffe's health could be a factor, also. He had triple bypass surgery a few years ago at the age of 50.

He seems like a better head coach candidate for Michigan--I hope Alleva keeps looking.

"He's an impressive person and an impressive coach." Here we go again. Duke is getting conned by some smooth-talking "impressive person" like Roof. I don't care if you're a nice person! ARE YOU GOING TO WIN OR NOT
